Aerobotics Launches New AI-Powered Crop Insurance Agency for Perennial Growers

The introduction of Aerobotics Crop Insurance Services, a new crop insurance agency, has been announced by the company. The company will employ artificial intelligence to create extremely precise crop insurance plans for producers of perennial crops, a significant first for the crop insurance industry.

Traditional crop insurance agents rely on growers for accurate record keeping or are forced to estimate policy inputs, using spacing assumptions to calculate percent stand and insurable acreage. Aerobotics’ new agency uses high-resolution drone imagery processed by proprietary agronomic algorithms to provide growers with exceptional accuracy on their insurable acres, while also providing growers with data that they can use to select the appropriate coverage level for the operation.

Growers have access to their data on Aeroview, Aerobotics digital platform, which is used by Aerobotics’ team of regional crop insurance agents to guide growers’ insurance decisions. In order to estimate the genuine insurable acres per block for the grower, the algorithms count and analyze the performance of each individual tree, as well as identifying dead or missing trees to get accurate percent stands. After that, our agents prepare a policy that makes sure growers only pay for producing planted acres.

According to Chief Insurance Officer, Andrew Burdock, “We think the existing approach is ineffective and growers pay the price for policies that don’t serve their best interest. It is safe to assume that every grower is interested in learning whether they are paying for acres that are not in production or taking a chance on having their claim denied. Precision cover, made possible by cutting-edge analytics and scalable agricultural data collection, is the crop protection strategy of the future.”
